Activity 1: Making a Racket [4 points]
Billie Jean King, Venus Williams, and Serena Williams are three amazing tennis players. They have worked hard to make sure women get the same amount of prize money as male tennis players do.
Billie Jean King famously beat a male tennis player, Bobby Riggs, in 1973, to prove that women could be just as good as men in tennis.
Here are two videos about Serena Williams and Venus Williams. Choose one to watch (or watch both!)
On your blog, tell us three things that you learned from watching this video, as well as one thing you would still like to know.
What I learned from the video
1.Serena Williams was born on september 26 1981.
2.Her parents are Richured and oracene williams
3.the parents had five daughters along with another that was a star tennis player named venus.
What I want to know.
1.Did the author daughters become famous too.
Hi Logan,
ReplyDeleteMe again. Well done on completing yet another activity - you sure are keeping me busy! :)
Wow, I didn't realise that Serena Williams had other sisters - I thought Venus was the only one. I just did a little bit of research and it looks like one of the sisters is a lawyer, one works in fashion and the other has sadly passed away. Do you like tennis? I haven't played it in a long long time but I remember enjoying it when I was younger.
Bye for now,
Mikey :)
Hi Logan!
ReplyDeleteI'm Natasha and over the next few weeks I'm going to be keeping up with your Summer Learning Journey blog posts and trying to help you improve your posts with some positive feedback :)
You've got some really good information here Logan, fantastic work. I didn't even know Serena had another sister who was a famous tennis player!
If you were looking for ways to make your posts really stand out I recommend including photos, or even embedding videos into your post off of Youtube.
If you were to be a famous sportsman, which sport would you choose and why?
Once again, well done. I've been so delighted to see the number of talented individuals such as yourself participating in the Summer Learning Journey this year. Keep up the awesome work, and have a wonderful holiday!
